"Wherever life plants you, Bloom with Grace" - French Proverb
Categories: Counsellors

I studied Person-Centred therapy on the University of Strathclyde’s MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy. My placement opportunities were in a range of settings: Perinatal Service; College; Trauma focused. I had the opportunity to work with a wide range of well-being challenges, and forming therapeutic relationships with a diverse range of clients.

I took it upon myself to become a Person-centred therapist because I strongly believe in its core values and principals: That we all have the potential for growth within us, and that by accessing our resources we are able to overcome any adversity that is thrown at us. To do this, we need a safe, supportive and non-judgemental environment. Part of my role is to facilitate that with you. In our working relationship I see you as being the expert of yourself. I have no white lab coat, or treatment manual from which I’ll assume the best course to “fix” you. Instead, we will work together to build a safe counselling environment from which we can explore your unique perspective of the world and your experiences in it.

This humanistic approach can be a relief to those feeling the weight of the medical model and all its labels. That being said, some people appreciate a formal diagnosis. We can work with or without the labels regardless of the camp you fall in to. For me, it is important to work with the whole of your experience, and not allow diagnostic labels to narrow our vision and potentially blind ourselves to other important aspects of your life.

My experiences with clients affected by Trauma enables me to provide a Trauma-informed approach to counselling if that is relevant to you. This means we can reinforce the therapy with exploring the facts about how our bodies respond to trauma, giving you a better sense of your own experiences, but still keeping the focus of therapy on your unique experiences.

I hope to be able to add Emotion-focused therapy, and Dialectical behavioural therapy to my portfolio once a suitable training program becomes available after current government restrictions regarding Covid-19.

I am currently working as a Counsellor for the Nottinghamshire Sexual Violence Support Services
